I’m Vicky Chen. I revise my opinion as follows.
In my opinion, there are several advantages Claire has done in this commemorative speech. First, Claire attracted audiences’ attention by asking them question, which is related to her topic—“Have you eaten yet?”
Besides, Claire mentioned the statistics, which is according to Food and Agriculture Organization to let audience know more about the starving situation in the world before she started the body of the speech. Second, she provided some information about the history of the World Vision to let audience know why the speaker wanted to praise this organization. Claire talked about the history in proper order, and mentioned several achievements such as caring for orphans and lepers and providing medical care in the remote regions of Taiwan the World Vision had done before.
Moreover, she told the audience the main part of her speech is the 30 Hour Famine. I think it was related to the questions what she asked in the introduction. It was a good method to let audience have more impression about the 30 Hour Famine. Third, Claire expressed her feeling about the 30 Hour Famine in her conclusion, because she said, “I’m really touched beyond words.” In that part, I think Claire told audience a correct aspect about the life attitude. I was touched by she said the sentence “Even just a bowl of porridge, they thank for it from the bottom of the heart.” For this sentence, it let me associate with the poor kids I had seen in TV.
In conclusion, I think Claire did a good job in her speech, and it was meaningful. Not only she mentions several achievements to let the audience know more about the World Vision especially the 30 Hour Famine, but she let me wanted to experience the 30 Hour Famine and advocate my effort to the World Vision after her speech.
